President's Letter
Shuja Khan on Friday , Apr 24, 2009

It is with tremendous excitement I welcome all the clubs for the 2009 PCL Regular Championship. The past year saw PCL taking a leap in all aspects of quality, competition and management of the game.

The year 2008 saw the launch of our new state of the art website. The website took significant effort in time and technology, but the results have been phenomenal and recognized across the board.  The scorecards and news were updated faster than Brett Lee's pace. Here, I would I like to take a moment to thank all the clubs and independent umpires for providing 100% umpiring coverage for the regular season.

PCL took an all-stars team to MAQ DC Open T20 held during the Labor Day weekend. The All-Stars team selected from the nominations sent and received from the individual teams held the PCL's flag high in the tournament by defeating oppositions consisting of present and former US National players and qualifying for the tournament finals. The team ended second only to Washington Tigers who are also part of PCL.

The revamped PCL TerminatorT20 competition took the awe further by the introduction of colored clothing at league's cost in the finals for the first time in PCL's history which is still young at the age of three. The tournament reinforced the thinking that T20 is a game of youngster with North East convincingly ended up being the champion.

Furthermore, the league developed strategic relationship with Cricket Council USA and Dreamcricket in our effort of promoting the sport in the Mid- Atlantic region. Dreamcricket.com put up a wonderful article on its website acknowledging the frontiers crossed and the efforts made by PCL so far.

Our growth and development came against many elements trying to destabilize and halt the progress of PCL. Yet, our resolute focus in the development of cricket in the region did not allow them to succeed in any manner whatsoever.

In addition, we have raised the bar higher by not only raising the standard and quality of cricket. Also, we made significant investment in technology that yielded in the slick, smart and well-received i-phone application. Our team is in the process of developing tools that would further automate the league’s operational processes.

Lastly, I would express my sincere gratitude to our executive committee comprising of Vinamra Kumar, Sujay Dutta, Jatan Upadhyay and Niral Shah for doing a splendid job in their respective roles in 2008.  I welcome Bayazid Siddique and Adnan Qureshi in their respective roles for 2009 season.

We step in 2009 with enthusiasm and the belief of taking cricket to new heights in this region. Please join me in our continuous effort in "The revival of cricket in the Mecca of cricket."
